Details
Agassiz Dojo is a traditional Japanese sword martial arts dojo operating in the FM area since 2008. Completely unique to our community, the instructor studied Kendo and Iaido in Japan under Japanese sensei for 11 years before returning to the US and opening the school. They serve and teach in both Fargo and Moorhead, and our area is known as the ancient Lake Agassiz glacial region so the name, Agassiz Dojo, was fitting.
While being a martial arts school, Agassiz Dojo tries to maintain and train in the traditional methods and mindset of Japan. Kendo is a way where the individual cultivates one’s mind (the self) by aiming for shin-ki-ryoku-itchi (unification of mind, spirit and technique) utilizing the shinai. The “shinai-sword” should be not only directed at one’s opponent but also at the self. Thus, the primary aim of instruction is to encourage the unification of mind, body and shinai through training in this discipline. Through repetition and refinement, they hope every student will be able to attain their best self.
You can book your training package by calling or using the “contact us” form on the website and mentioning SaveCoin. Agassiz Dojo does suggest visiting in person even if you are unsure if you want to join a class. Check their website www.fargosword.com for the latest information.
