Rock from the Heart: Raising Awareness Through Music
Rock from the Heart is more than just a nonprofit—it’s a movement fueled by music, passion, and a mission to save lives. Founded after co-founder Pete Johnson’s life-changing diagnosis of an aortic aneurysm, Rock from the Heart is dedicated to raising awareness and educating people about aortic and heart valve disease. Through patient support, community outreach, and inspiring events, they help individuals and families navigate their heart health journey.
The name Rock from the Heart carries a deep personal meaning. After undergoing open-heart surgery, Pete and his wife, Amy, recognized the need for greater awareness about heart disease. As a professional drummer, Pete saw the power of music in connecting with people and spreading a message of hope. This led to the creation of Rock from the Heart—a perfect blend of rock music’s energy and a heartfelt mission to educate, inspire, and save lives.
What many don’t realize is that Rock from the Heart isn’t just about music—it’s about second chances and turning a personal battle into a nationwide effort. Since becoming a nonprofit in 2018 and hosting their first event in 2019, they have grown significantly, expanding to Fargo in 2022. Now, in their fourth year in the FM area, they continue to bring people together through high-energy benefit concerts, heart health symposiums, and patient support programs.
Rock from the Heart takes a different approach to heart health awareness. Instead of overwhelming people with medical jargon, they use the universal language of music to engage, educate, and inspire. Their events are not just about information—they’re about connection, community, and making heart health awareness bold, loud, and unforgettable.
As they gear up for their next big event on May 3 at the Avalon Events Center, they invite you to join them. Every ticket purchased, every song played, and every story shared contributes to a movement that is saving lives. Whether you’ve been impacted by heart disease or simply love great music with a purpose, your support makes a difference.
Let’s fill the Avalon with hope, love, and music—together, they rock for awareness, they rock for survival, they Rock from the Heart! 🎸❤️
Testimonial
Hi, I had a Bentall procedure almost three years ago to replace my ascending aorta and aortic valve. I had no idea my aorta and aortic valve were diseased and that I was in diastolic and systolic heart failure until I saw a new doctor for a routine physical who heard a heart murmur that other specialists had missed. Three months later, I had my life-saving Bentall procedure at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Music has always been my therapy of choice, so, to celebrate the anniversary of being given a second chance at life, I make a point of doing something music-related. Last Saturday, I was searching online for music events to celebrate my beating heart and I discovered your organization. My husband and I impulsively went to your concert at the Palace Theater, and the music was amazing!! Thank you for the night of great entertainment. And I'm so grateful for all you are doing to raise awareness about aortic disease and potentially save lives. Thank you so much for sharing your music and your time to help other people!
